This table has been inspired by a medieval table we have had in our family for some years. I have always admired the simplicity and proportion of this table and its ability to accommodate 8 sitters with ease, the table being 56 x 26 inches.

The pedestal design minimises interference with the sitters legs, although as children we used to rest our feet on the the cross bar as generations had before us resulting in a wonderfully worn top edge!

Cross member detail of the refectory table.

I have tried to interpret the original (much of the detail is missing in our old table) without resorting to a pastiche (not trying to imitate the aged black oak of the original) as this is a new table!

Constructed of Italian oak with traditional joinery throughout.

This piece was designed as a worktop with two slatted shelves to accommodate vegetable storage in the upper shelf, and two large Labrador dogs (plus baskets) in the lower!

A multi-use sideboard made from tulip wood and reclaimed cedar.

The base has been constructed of tulip wood, finished in vegetable wood oil to enhance the unusual colour and grain, and the top is reclaimed cedar. Traditional mortise and tenon jointing has been employed throughout.

A mobile sideboard cupboard with a tulip wood base, American white oak top, traditional jointing throughout, hand-cut dovetails and beading and buttons used to affix the worktop.

The customer asked that this would be mobile, so recessed castors were used so as to not interfere with the balance of this piece of furniture.
